I am a devout Christian who has worked with victims of sexual abuse, to the point that now I have PTSD as well! A few Buddhist friends have suggested some techniques from Buddhist daily practice for me to adopt. This book helped me to understand where my friends are coming from, and how "mindfulness" fits into their practice of Buddhism. I found this book to be concise, friendly in tone, and very informative to a person not well acquainted with Buddhism. In a few passages the language is a little stilted. But that is a small complaint. The book is easy to read. The author is persuasive, but he does not condemn other beliefs. I remain a Christian and an omnivore, but this book was helpful, educational, and a quick read. If you just want to understand what Buddhism is, this book would be a great start.

This is high quality book with beautiful pictures. The topic of buddhism and eastern philosophy is one where I think everyone should know about and can really improve the quality of ones life and happiness. I really like the principles of buddhism and recommend everyone to read about it and this book can be a good first start to learn about it, so I really recommend it.

This book was very informative about the history of Buddhism and exercising it in the modern way. I real appreciate life more than ever after reading this book. It gave me insight about the cultural behavior of the west regarding the involvement of religious teachings and beliefs. One main lesson I learned from this book was that the Buddha taught to always question everything to develop mindfulness awareness. I would defiantly recommend this book to all who want to learn more about Buddhism.
If you are unfamiliar with Buddhism this book presents Buddhism in a way that is easily accessible to the lay reader. The author explores the moral and societal implications of Buddhist principles. The author also looks at Buddhism not as a religion but instead as a rational basis for an existence of equality, equity and mutual respect among all beings. This is a very good starting point for an exploration of Buddhism and I recommend it as reading for your personal spiritual journey.
This book answers the question is Buddhism a religion or a philosophy. The 8Fold Path is a good way to live. I didn't know all these things about this religion--now I do. I actually became calmer reading this book. Knowing that we don't need someone to save us, that we can save ourselves, is something I always followed. Didn't know there was a religion that actually says it. The parables/stories at the end are nice too. Great book on Buddhism.
A great introduction to Buddhism, I have been interested in Buddhism for a while now and this book explains everything and how you can incorporate it into the modern western world.
It makes good comparisons to other religions and explains how it integrates into your daily life.
I have been meditating for 2 months now but this book has changed the way I meditate and the thoughts I focus on.
I don't know the meaning of life yet but with a lot more meditation and reading books like this hopefully one day I'll get there

It’s a beautiful, an inspirational and a very spiritual book. I’ve learned so much about the history of Buddhism and it’s philosophy from this book. I enjoyed reading the chapter about the principles of Buddhism and I felt so much more balanced and calm just from reading this book.
I believe that anyone, no matter what religion they relate themselves to, can benefit from this book and learn something to make their lives, and the lives of people around them better. Especially learning and practicing the Buddhist philosophy can be beneficial nowadays, which are full of stress and material temptations.
